PERSONAL: February 2024 Journal

We got a “bonus day” this year with the leap year happening! I’m not sure where February went, but we got an extra day to reflect on that thought LOL I want these journal entries to be lighthearted so they show my personality and personal so you all can get to know me on a more deeper level. I thought it might be fun to answer some questions and update you all on any new changes that might have happened this month. If you all want me to include anything specific, feel free to let me know because I want to be an open book. Sometimes I’m not sure what you would all want to know about me or something that you all might want to hear. I don’t want to bore you. I feel like last month’s blog post might have been dull, but maybe you all loved it and I’m just being critical lol Let me know your thoughts, if you have any because I’m willing to tweak things as I go.

What’s New In February

Well, nothing too drastic to report, but I am another year older! I turned 32 but I still feel like I’m 2o. It might help that I seem to always gravitate towards active jobs. I don’t get many days off so I took a couple of days off on my birthday weekend, which was so nice. It doesn’t take much to make me happy. Not having to be somewhere at a certain time is all I need lol I did little things like walk to the local coffee shop and picked up a coffee, went to Golden Corral with family, walked around the mall to see the cute puppies, went bowling (and lost), played some pool (and won), and watched a few movies on Netflix. It was pretty chill.

My birthday cake (confetti box cake)

I’m still working at Costco in the bakery! Like I said, it’s a pretty active job that includes a lot of heavy lifting, mopping, cleaning, packaging items, walking, and moving around. It’s always interesting because I’m now trained in packaging, setting up, and closing, so it’s never the exact same. When I close, I definitely work up a sweat. The muffin trays are like 10 pounds each and you have to lift them above your head. Since I used to be a personal trainer, I make sure I am using the proper muscles so I treat it like a workout. The bakery has a bluetooth speaker so I blast my tunes while I run the scrubbing machine (I named her Birtha). My co-workers are fun team so that makes it nice.

February is the month of love, but I didn’t do anything but work on Valentine’s Day. I wore all my heart sweaters though and got tons of complements! I’m not dating anyone so I just relaxed at home with my pup. She is my little valentine and I love that pup so much!

I also had a couple surprise partnerships! They were unpaid, but still great opportunities! I am working with the HUGE makeup brush brand, ArtIs! They emailed me and asked if they could send me products and give me a discount code for my followers. Of course, I said YES because I love their brushes. If you aren’t familiar, their makeup brushes are unique because they have super dense bristles, which give you an airbrushed look! I have larger pores, so I love what they do to the skin! I mainly use the large oval brush to spread my foundation. I like the smaller one to apply concealer under my eyes. I discovered them myself from another blogger and decided to give them a try since she raved about them. Anyway, in case you are interested, us my DISCOUNT CODE: KRYSTALK40 to get 40% OFF your order! Definitely check out the oval 7 brush because it does wonders! Tap HERE for their website and make sure to apply the code at checkout!

The other opportunity I received was to write a quote for a major blog called Redfin. They have a large number of followers so I took up the offer in order to get some publicity. I’m a small blogger so I usually take up offers to get my name out there, but also to add it to my influencer packet. Maybe one day I can be a part time influencer, but for now I just do all this for fun with a few opportunities here and there! I love taking photos and chatting on Insta stories with you all so it’s like a hobby.

February also contained the Super Bowl. I am listing all these things as they pop in my head so these February happenings are in no particular order. I really wanted the Chiefs to play the Lions, but poor Lions didn’t make it. The Chiefs ended up playing the 49ers. I had to root for the Chiefs. Travis Kelce is hilarious. I listen to him and his brother Jason on their New Heights Podcast so I feel like I know them. Plus, I like Taylor Swift. I don’t know if I qualify as a “Swifty” since I don’t hyper focus on every little detail of her life, but I listen to her songs and I originally started to play guitar because of her. The Super Bowl seemed different this year. It just seemed like a normal game. They didn’t add any extra hype during the game, I thought. The halftime show was just ok. I appreciated the extra skill Usher added with the rollerskating, but if I missed it, I wouldn’t have been disappointed. I judge whether is was extra spectacular by asking myself if I would look it up on YouTube and rewatch it. I don’t have a desire to rewatch it, so that tells me whether I loved it or not.

Awhile ago, I thrifted a vintage Chiefs sweatshirt so I wore it to the small party my friend had to root for them. It was some good eating over there because they made my favorite tater tot casserole! I brought pumpkin spice cookies (You all know I love fall lol). I came later because I had my small group meeting with my church ladies, but all I missed was them running onto the field. I was happy that the Chiefs won but I was also pretty chill about the game. Feels weird now that there’s no football going on now, but maybe I’ll get some reading in.

Personal Question & Answer Session

I want to take some time to share some of my opinions and thoughts about hot topics or news that has happened in February. Thought this would be a great opportunity to connect with you all, but also have you get a glimpse into my mind. This is “Krystal’s Mind Blog” after all lol

One word or phrase to describe February?

I would say the word I would use is BRISK because it casually went by. Another word would be PLEASANT because it was enjoyable due to it being my birthday month and I was satisfied with the little weekend I had off. It wasn’t anything super exciting, but I wouldn’t change anything. I picked two words so I’m starting off by breaking the rules lol Just kidding, there are no rules lol

What TV show or movies did you watch in February?

I started watching Young Sheldon on Netflix. I’m on Season 5 now and it’s such a wholesome show. I didn’t realize Reba and the guy that lives in the barn on the show Bless This Mess was in it (I’m horrible at knowing actor’s names). I love watching shows that are light hearted and short right before bed to wind down for the day. I watched the movie Queenpins on Netflix and also loved that movie. That’s my kind of movie- quirky, funny with goofy humor, and has a different storyline. Some people who like more serious movies may not like it, but I thought it was good.

Have you always watched the Super Bowl or did you just watch for Taylor Swift content?

Growing up, I liked the Super Bowl because we always had a party going on! I used to love having people over at our house! I never really watched it too much when I was young. Normally me and my girl friends would be in the other room hanging out and eating. I would watch bits and pieces when I would get snacks. Now, I understand the game more so I’ll pretty much sit through the whole game and watch. This year I was tuned in extra close though because I did want to see Taylor Swift and Travis. I think they are good together. He’s the first guy I’ve ever liked that Taylor dated so far. All the other guys didn’t seem to fit her. They are both big family people who seem pretty down to earth. My favorite part about seeing Taylor at the games is admiring her game outfits. I was surprised she didn’t go all out for the Super Bowl, but her black jeans with the diamond lined cut outs were pretty cool. I love her casual style. I would wear like all of her fits. Travis’ style is too out there for me though. The baggy dress pants he wears are not flattering. I know it’s the trend though. Anyways, I guess the answer is yes now that I’m older lol

Most listened to Spotify playlist, song, and podcast in February?

I’ve been listening to a random Christian Lofi playlist I found on Spotify. I throw that on while I do my devotionals, journaling, and Bible reading time. Most listened to song was probably Firm Foundation (He Won’t) by Cody Carnes. We are singing it this Sunday at church! I mainly only listen to 3 podcasts, but MOST listened to was probably De-Influenced with Dani Austin and her husband Jordan. I feel like they keep me up with the times without being boring. They are a Christian couple and give good advice about daily life in a humorous way.

What was your favorite snack or meal of February?

So a Taco Bell just opened up in downtown Buchanan, walking distance from my house (a long walk, but still walkable) so I’ve been there a couple times. They have a $5 breakfast meal box that includes a breakfast crunchwrap, 2 harsh browns (I substitute the cinnamon bites for a second hashbrown), and a medium Cinnabon coffee. Their coffee is THE BEST by the way. If you were to ask me where the best place to get coffee is, I would surprisingly say Taco Bell LOL Beats Panera and McDonald’s coffee, in my opinion.

Do you like February’s holiday (Valentine’s Day)?

I would say it’s one of my least favorite holidays. Not to be a downer, but I think it’s because I’ve always put my expectations too high and have been let down too many times. Plus, it’s too close to my birthday so it’s easy to clump it together for my birthday lol I do like wearing heart sweaters though!

Top highlights of in February?

1) Celebrating my birthday on three separate occasions! My family and friends all couldn’t attend the same get together, so it got spread out, which I didn’t mind doing!

2) Playing pool (and winning) at the bowling ally! I enjoyed bowling too, but I had a really bad game since all the balls were too heavy for my wimpy arm. I’m normally not good, but I was horrible that day! I don’t play enough to be consistent either so I’m not mad lol

3) Bringing my best friend to church with me and chatting about the message throughout the day!

Thanks for reading my February blog post! Let me know if you liked it and feel free to reach out to me anytime!
