CAKE DECORATING: Decorating At Home!

As you all might know, I’m an cake decorator in the Costco bakery! Before working at Costco, I knew nothing about decorating cakes besides one 4-H class growing up.

I was sent over to the cake decorating area a few times and caught on really quick so they decided to keep me over there. The rest is history! I was officially hired on as a decorator! At Costco, it’s all about speed. I can ice a 10″ round cake in under a minute! We need to be fast because we sell around 40-60 cakes a day at our location.

Anyways, I’m so creative in general, I can watch someone do something with a cake and copy it rather quickly. I designed and decorated a smash cake for my niece’s first birthday and loved creating cute cakes rather than cakes in bulk.

Thats why I’ve been making a lot of vintage heart cakes and other fun cakes! I’m starting to get even more creative and going to make cakes for people to practice!

I wanted to make a cute western cake for my birthday since me and my sisters were going line dancing. I wanted a confetti cake with vanilla mousse filling. I collected inspo photos from Pinterest as well to see how I wanted to decorate the cake. I wanted a tan cake with brown boaders. I bought the wrong icing though at GFS! The icing was  thin and runny. It tasted ok, but I couldnt even decorate it.

I eneded up finding a different icing at Walmart and decided to make it again as a “just because” cake. It’s a confetti cake with buttercream filling. I made it tan with brown boaders and decided to write “Hello” on it as the first cake I posted on my new Instagram cake account!

I’m going to start posting all the cakes I’m making on my cake account called @krystalcakeshop. I wanted to market my cakes in a certain way so if someone asks what cake is that, they can respond, it’s a “Krystal Cake”! I wanted to sound like when someone asks what type cookie they are eating, they respond it’s a Crumbl Cookie. Thought it was kinda catchy.

I’m super excited to start making more cakes! My boyfriend wants me to make him a pretzel M&M cake, which I’m excited to make! I also want to make my small group a cake! They requested chocolate or strawberry cake, I think I’ll fill a chocolate cake with strawberries!

Let me know what other type cake I should make! What flavor? What design theme? I’m just making cakes to show others what I can do for now, then maybe it could turn into some income in the future!
