DOGMOM LIFE: Huntlie’s 7th Birthday

Huntlie is now 7 years old and every year I have to post a little blog all about her, my baby girl lol It started out being a rough year for her, but got better once I had her checked out. She’s tough. She’s such a sweet girl.

Last year, she was limping a little bit but i didn’t think much of it until she kept being depressed and wimpered for me to carry her up the stairs when it was bedtime. Something was wrong so I used my tax refund to get her checkups and x-rays. The first vet said she had torn ACLs and wanted to do a $10,000  surgery that wasn’t guaranteed to last.  She could chase a squirrel or something and be back to square one and I’d be out 10 grand. I took her to my brother’s wife’s clinic to get a second opinion and they said the same thing. They took x-rays and said that her right back ACL was a 3 (out of 4) and her back left was at a 2 (4 being the worst). They prescribed her Carprofen to help with swelling, which I can fill right at Costco, where I work. I can get a bottle for $20 which is a lot more affordable than a $10,000 surgery lol

I started giving her the pills and she started getting around better. I’m so glad that they have been working for her! She’s a fighter! Her little legs have a hard bump on them from scar tissue and eventually she might get arthritis, but for now, she is doing well.

After taking the Carprofen, she’s been doing so much better! She is able to go on walks, climb stairs, and do everything she was able to! She doesn’t need her medicine everyday, I just watch how she’s walking or if she starts looking depressed, I give her a pill, which she is so good at taking. She thinks the pill is a treat and sometimes begs for one lol I usually dip the pill in peanut butter to give to her, but its not necessary because she takes the pill by itself with no problem. She has to be on her medicine the rest of her life, but I’m so glad I have my happy pupper back!

Her whiskers are starting to turn white now and sometimes I freak out thinking about one day losing her, but I stop myself and give her all the attention and cuddles while I still have her by my side.

For her birthday, I made her a homemade puppacino from my esspesso machine! She loved it! I also bought her a tootsie roll rope toy with multiple squeakers. She wouldn’t stop playing with it once I gave it to her lol She also got taken on a walk and took a couple photos of her, even though they didn’t turn out the best because it got way too cold out so she didn’t want to sit in the snow lol

I’m truly grateful for all the prayers over Huntlie from my small group and family. This year was hard on us both but we are excited about our summer adventures coming up! I want to take her on new trails and go camping with her this summer!
