DOGMOM LIFE: Huntlie’s 6th Birthday

If you all couldn’t tell by now, Huntlie (AKA Hunbun) is my best friend! I have her to come home to every night and I love having her around, for sure! She is such the perfect dog for me. She roams the house when I’m gone and doesn’t shred anything. I always joke around saying I could leave a rotisserie chicken on the floor and she wouldn’t touch it until I got home since she doesn’t eat while I’m away. She loves going on hikes, like me, and is ready to cuddle when I get home or while I’m on the couch working.

Huntlie 6 years old

I can’t believe she is already 6 years old. The birthday she passed me in age (in dog years), I got sad thinking of that realization. She is now almost a decade older than me now! She is still happy and healthy, but here and there when she lays too long after running around, she starts limping a little bit. One night, she almost couldn’t make it up the stairs for bed. Poor girl. But the next morning, she had no trouble so I think she will be ok. I think she just runs too fast chasing the squirrels in the backyard and overdoes it. Like the day after you hit the gym and get sore. I haven’t taken her on any walks lately because it’s been cold and I get home after dark from work.

She recently gave me a scare and it shook me to my core! I let her out one morning and made coffee. I started relaxing and doing my morning devotional. I glanced outside here and there and saw she was sitting on the deck looking at the squirrels in the back. I went to the bathroom and was going to let her in when I seen her tie out chain was leading under the deck. She usually hangs out under the deck. I call it her den lol I usually call her and she comes up to come in, but this time she didn’t. I followed the leash and saw the end had broke off. The end with my pup on it! I called her and couldn’t find her anywhere! I walked around calling for her and when that didn’t work, I jumped in my car frantically looking for her. I drove everywhere I thought she might be. I drove around the block where I take her on walks. Nothing. I called my mom crying because I had no idea what happened to her. She prayed with me and I never thought that morning could have been my last time petting her or letting her out. We were going to start making calls and create a search party for her.

I wrote a note and taped it to my front door in case someone found her while I was out looking. I started walking outside to keep looking and call up a buddy who lives down the street to help me look for her when I SAW HER IN THE DISTANCE!!! Her big ears were up and when she saw me she bolted to me, chain dragging behind her. I was so happy to see her! My baby found her way home and I hugged her non stop. My mom was still on the phone when she came back and I was so excited that she was back. I was starting to lose hope.

I gave her lots of treats. For a reward of coming home, not the running off part lol I’m so glad she knows where her home is. It truly felt like the prodigal son. I understand why the Father threw a big feast instead of punishing the son for running off.

Hunbun also gained a new doggie friend this year too! I’ve been hanging out with a guy who has a chocolate lab named Kobe. Kobe is her best friend. Usually Hunbun isn’t the best with other dogs because she’s been attacked a couple times by other dogs. She is really cautious and tries to act tough around other dogs. With Kobe, she plays with him, lets him sleep in her donut bed, and lets him eat out of her food bowl. She is really good with him and he is good with her. He is a laid back dog and is double the size of her, which helps Hunbun respect him, I think. They are so cute on walks together. They sniff everything together, it’s adorable.

Anyway, I’m so glad I have Hunbun in my life. She makes everyday a good day having her around! I can’t wait for another year with her!
